DENVER — A 14-year-old boy wanted in connection with a July 10 homicide in Denver was arrested in Wyoming, Denver Police said Wednesday afternoon.
The suspect was arrested Tuesday with the assistance from the FBI Safe Streets Task Force and Casper Police Department.
The boy, who 9NEWS is no longer naming due to his age, was wanted in connection with the killing of Todd Kidd. He was shot around 6:40 p.m. on July 10 in the area of 29th and Larimer Streets.
According to Denver Police, Kidd was shot by the boy when he intervened in a disturbance. Kidd was transported to the hospital and died from his injuries two days later.
Investigators identified the teen as the suspect in Todd's killing through surveillance video and information obtained from witnesses. Through their investigation, Denver Police Fugitive Unit investigators determined the suspect was in Casper, Wyoming.
The teen is being held for investigation of first-degree murder. He is currently being charged as a juvenile but could be tried as an adult. That decision will be up to the Denver District Attorney’s office when they make the final determination of charges.
"Someone who is 14 is far more likely to be charged as an adult than an individual who's only 12 or 11 or even 13," said 9NEWS legal analyst Scott Robinson. "But if the crime is serious enough, it may not matter, that this particular juvenile is 14 years old."
Robinson said the DA will consider his age, maturity, prior criminal history and the seriousness of the crime before deciding whether to try him as an adult.
