EAGLE COUNTY, Colo. — A suspect in a deadly hit-and-run crash in Eagle County has been arrested.
The Colorado State Patrol (CSP) said a warrant was issued for Sidney Whitmarsh, 24, in connection with the Jan. 7 crash and she was arrested in Clarendon, Arkansas on Thursday.
CSP said Whitmarsh faces the following charges:
- Failed to remain at the scene of a crash resulting in death - felony
- Tampering with physical evidence - felony
- Vehicular homicide - felony
- Failure to notify police of a traffic accident resulting in death - misdemeanor
CSP said on the afternoon of Jan. 9, they were notified by Eagle County deputies of a body found down an embankment off the side of Highway 6 near Edwards. Troopers responded and determined that it was a fatal hit-and-run crash.
The investigation revealed that two days earlier, on Jan. 7, between 12:30 a.m. and 2 a.m., a cyclist was traveling on Highway 6 when he was struck. The driver then left the scene. The bicycle was recovered from the scene and was believed to have been taken from the area, CSP said.
The Denver Gazette reports the victim was identified as Mario Vildozola, 43.
