ADAMS COUNTY, Colo. — A Denver Police officer was found guilty on Friday of hitting a handcuffed juvenile during an arrest in November 2023.
Court documents show that an Adams County jury convicted Dat Truong, 33, on Friday of misdemeanor harassment. Truong was accused of hitting the juvenile when they were already in custody on Nov. 3, 2023, near the intersection of Interstate 225 and Colfax Avenue.
Truong is scheduled for sentencing on Dec. 16.
Denver Police said Truong joined the department in 2014 and was most recently assigned as an officer within the Special Operations Division at the time of the incident.
Police said Friday that the department's administrative processes are moving forward based on the outcome of a disqualifying incident for peace officer certification in Colorado, which includes notifying Colorado Peace Officer Standards & Training (POST) of the conviction.
Truong was placed in a nonpatrol assignment on Nov. 6, 2023, when the investigation began. He will now be suspended with pay pending the completion of the administrative process, according to police.
