Denver Police officer accused of harassment

Prosecutors allege the officer hit a juvenile who was in custody after an arrest.

ADAMS COUNTY, Colorado — A Denver Police Department officer is facing a harassment charge after he allegedly hit a juvenile who was in custody, according to Adams County prosecutors.

Dat Truong, 32, faces a misdemeanor harassment charge. Prosecutors allege Truong hit a juvenile who was in custody after an arrest on Nov. 3 in the area of Interstate 225 and Colfax Avenue, the Adams County District Attorney's Office said on Wednesday.

The charge was filed this week, according to court documents.

Denver Police said Truong joined the department in 2014 and was most recently assigned as an officer within the Special Operations Division. They said Truong was placed in a nonpatrol assignment on Nov. 6, when the investigation into this incident began. He will remain in that role while the case makes its way through the judicial process, police said.

Denver Police said they will begin an administrative review after the criminal case is resolved.

Truong is set to appear in court for an advisement hearing March 5.
