Denver contractor faces 50 charges in two separate cases

Kyle Arienta is accused of defrauding customers and burglarizing Denver homes.

DENVER — A Denver County grand jury has indicted a contractor with 39 counts, including the Colorado Organized Crime Control Act (COCCA) and multiple counts of securities fraud and theft, the Denver District Attorney's Office said Thursday.

Kyle Arienta, 40, faces 11 additional counts in a separate case of completed or attempted home burglaries.

The Denver District Attorney's Office said Arienta initially stole about $1.1 million from three families who had hired him to complete construction projects on their Denver area homes. He is accused of abandoning all three projects after doing minimal work. He then allegedly persuaded several former clients and friends to send him "investments" on a construction project that did not actually exist, stealing about $1.7 million from his victims through September.

Arienta is also being charged with 11 counts of completed or attempted home burglaries that occurred primarily in Denver's Crestmoor, Hilltop, Washington Park and Belcaro neighborhoods in November, the DA's office said. Additional cases are still under investigation.

Denver Police announced Dec. 6 that Arienta had been taken into custody with help from the Cherry Hills Village Police Department.

“Mr. Arienta is accused of violating the trust of numerous clients and friends, as well as burglarizing numerous homes, and these charges are an important step toward holding him accountable for his alleged crimes," said District Attorney Beth McCann. "I want to thank the prosecutors and investigators in my office, the Colorado Division of Securities and the officers and detectives with the Denver Police Department and the Cherry Hills Village Police Department, whose hard work on these cases has gotten us to this point.”
