Suspect in Broomfield standoff charged with first-degree murder

BROOMFIELD, Colo. — The man accused of holding a woman hostage before killing her during an hourslong standoff at a Broomfield apartment complex this month has been formally charged with 24 counts, including first-degree murder.

The 17th Judicial District Attorney’s Office announced charges for Gregory Miles on Thursday. He's charged with:

  • First-degree murder
  • Four counts of attempted first-degree murder
  • 18 counts of attempted first-degree murder of peace officer
  • Violent crime weapon used (sentence enhancer)

The charges relate to the fatal shooting of Aisha Quest during a standoff on Sept. 12 during which Miles is accused of firing a weapon near law enforcement and other people at the Arista Flats apartments in Broomfield.

Police responded to the complex near U.S. 36 and Wadsworth Parkway around 6:30 that morning for a disturbance report. According to Broomfield Police, Miles made threats and started shooting at surrounding units and the parking lot.

As a result, some residents were evacuated and others were told to shelter in place. The standoff ended shortly before 10 a.m., when police forcibly entered a unit, shot Miles and took him into custody.

Quest was also in the unit. She was shot during the incident and later died.

Miles has a criminal history dating back to 2012 that involves multiple other women accusing him of domestic violence. He currently does not have court dates set.
