Suspect in deadly Broomfield shooting has history of domestic violence

Before the shooting, court records show a trail of warning signs involving other women who had protection orders against Gregory Miles that go back to 2012.

BROOMFIELD, Colo. — The victim in the active shooter situation in Broomfield last week has officially been identified as 32-year-old Aisha Quest.

Quest died inside the apartment and Miles is under investigation for first-degree murder. Her family told 9NEWS they believe she was in relationship with the man who held her hostage.

According to family, they have no intention of starting a GoFundMe page to raise money and they have not authorized any fundraising pages that may be trying to raise funds for the family.

On Sept. 12, officers were dispatched to a disturbance at an apartment. Broomfield Police said they heard Gregory Miles yelling inside. He began to shoot at officers, into other rooms and the parking lot.

Before the shooting, court records show a trail of warning signs involving other women dating back to 2012 in Colorado.

Multiple women were listed as protected parties on protection orders against him over the years and at least twice, Miles was ordered to not have a gun.

More than a decade earlier, Miles pleaded guilty in Jefferson County for violating a protection order. At least three women - not including Quest - were named as protected parties in similar orders.

In Adams County, a girlfriend told a court in 2012 she didn't want Miles to have a gun. The court filed a mandatory protection order after she refused to open her front door and Miles forced his way in the home by shoving his shoulder against the door, documents said. The "drywall shattered" and "fell to the floor", according to records.

Miles pleaded guilty to criminal mischief for the damaged door.

A third woman is listed as a protected party on a mandatory protection order in Denver in 2019 after Miles was charged for having or trying to buy a gun or ammunition while a protection order was in effect. The protection order said he could not purchase or have a gun or buy ammunition.

In January 2020, Miles pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge for violating a protection order. Another charge for violating bond conditions was dismissed by the district attorney's office.

However, that didn't stop him. In August 2020, he was charged in Douglas County for assaulting the same woman in the Denver case. In 2021, he pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault.

Fast forward to 2024 with Miles is dating someone else: he's now under investigation for the most serious charge yet.

There are no records to suggest Miles was under active protection orders at the time of the shooting in Broomfield. Police shot him multiple times during the incident and was taken to the hospital. Prosecutors have not formally charged him.

Other charges Miles has been found guilty of in the past include being drunk with a gun, driving while impaired and theft.

Family members told 9NEWS they believe the victim, Aisha Quest, was in a relationship with the man accused of killing her.
