2 mail carriers robbed at gunpoint in Denver

Video from a home security camera showed the suspects — three to four people — taking off in a white Hyundai Sonata, investigators said.

DENVER — The U.S. Postal Inspection Service (USPIS) on Tuesday offered a reward of up to $150,000 for information leading to the arrest of suspects who robbed two U.S. Postal Service letter carriers at gunpoint Monday night in northeast Denver.

The USPIS said the robberies both happened around 5 p.m. in the Montbello neighborhood.

One happened in the area of Bolling Drive and Duluth Court. The other happened in the 4600 block of Eureka Court.

Three suspects are wanted in the armed robbery of USPS letter carriers Monday evening in Denver.

The USPIS said they are offering a reward of up to $150,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspects.

Anyone with information that may help identify the suspects is asked to call the U.S. Postal Inspection Service at 877-876-2455 and reference "Denver robbery."

Monday's two robberies in Denver are among the 2,000 attacks against letter carriers nationally since 2020, according to the union that represents them.

"Now you're having to keep your head on a swivel and wonder, is there going to be a robbery or an assault or an attack around the next corner?" said Richard Byrne, president of the Colorado State Association of Letter Carriers.

The union is calling for more federal prosecution of robbers who attack postal carriers.

"The word needs to get out that letter carriers are untouchable," Byrne said. "Don't mess with them. You will have consequences if you go after letter carriers."

Postal inspectors have noted in court documents that robbers are targeting letter carriers for their arrow keys. One arrow key can open up dozens of mailboxes in an area. The postal service said last year that it will be replacing nearly 50,000 arrow keys with electronic locks to discourage a robber's motivation.

From November: Up to $150k reward offered for information on postal worker attack

From October: Postal workers demand protections as reports of assaults and robberies increase
