DENVER — Steps away from the snow, the frigid air melts away into a taste of the tropics in Denver's Cheesman Park neighborhood.
The Denver Botanic Gardens is offering up a welcome respite from this week's subzero temps with a floral paradise. In pots, in plants, and all around, orchids take center stage at the garden's annual Orchid Showcase. The exhibit is included with Gardens admission.
These delicate flowers need warm temperatures to thrive -- far warmer than what Denver's deep freeze can accommodate. The orangery greenhouse helps protect these bright blossoms and those who come to see them.
The orchid showcase will outlast these arctic temperatures. While the weather will warm Tuesday, this exhibit will stay in place through Feb. 19, continuing to offer a cozy spot to look upon rainbow-hued blooms through this freeze and the next.
