COLORADO, USA — Denver could see wind chill temperatures below zero for 84 straight hours beginning Friday night.

The National Weather Service recommends avoiding outside activities if possible during this period. But if you're dreading being holed up in your house over the holiday weekend, here are some ideas to get out but still stay cozy and warm.

Indian Hot Springs - Idaho Springs

At this hot springs resort about 45 minutes west of Denver, you can relax and stay warm while soaking in geothermal caves.

The caves have multiple walk-in pools and are a designated quiet area, so you're sure to have a relaxing soak.

Before heading that way, check the conditions on Interstate 70 to make sure it's safe to travel west.

The Study at Hotel Teatro - Denver

If you don't have a fireplace at home, you can hang out in front of the roaring fire at this public lounge inside the Hotel Teatro in downtown Denver.

You can curl up with a good book and order cocktails, coffee and pastries from the adjacent bar.

Bull and Bush - Glendale

There's another cozy fireplace inside this longstanding London-style pub.

Along with their house-made beer, they also serve warming cocktails like Irish Coffee, spiked hot chocolate, and a concoction called "The Warm Blanket."

Yampah Spa Hot Springs Vapor Caves - Glenwood Springs

If you're already out west (we are not recommending traveling to Glenwood from Denver this weekend), check out these relaxing natural steam rooms.

The underground caves are warmed by 125 degree mineral water that flows through the cave floors. Guests can relax on marble benches while getting a steam bath.

Cave of the Winds - Manitou Springs

If you're craving outdoor adventure but don't want to freeze, a tour inside the caves could be perfect: they stay about 54 degrees no matter the temperature outside.

Located outside of Colorado Springs, about an hour south of Denver, the vast, complex caverns were discovered in 1881 by brothers exploring the area.

South Broadway Country Club - Denver

If you spend most summer weekends with your clubs, a golf simulator might trick you into thinking you're enjoying a warm afternoon on the course.

The South Broadway Country Club lets guests play some of the world's top golf courses while staying inside. They also have a full-service cocktail bar.

Steam rooms and saunas

The Martin Luther King Jr. Recreation Center in Denver has both a steam room and a sauna that can be used with a day price for $5. Recreation centers in other metro-area towns have a similar set-up.

Just be aware most rec centers will be closed Monday in observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.

Many local gyms (Chuze Fitness, 24 Hour Fitness, Vasa Fitness, etc.) also have steam rooms and saunas, and may offer day or trial passes.
