Cat who wandered onto crash scene gets adopted by firefighter

The friendly cat got into the back of an ambulance and even appeared interested in driving the fire truck.

CASTLE ROCK, Colo. — A cat who wandered onto Interstate 25 during a crash and hazmat situation near Castle Rock earlier this month has a new home — with one of the firefighters who responded to the incident.

Three people were hurt in the March 7 crash in the southbound lanes of the highway near Castle Pines Parkway. The crash involved a semi-truck which resulted in hours-long lane closures while diesel fuel was cleaned up.

Crews from South Metro Fire Rescue responded to assist and while there, a friendly cat joined them. The orange tabby made friends quickly and even got into the driver's seat of one of the vehicles.

Eventually, the cat was placed in a crate and taken to the Dumb Friends League. Her journey didn't end there, though. In an update Thursday, South Metro Fire said the cat, named "Hazi," was adopted by one of the firefighters she met that day.

They shared photos of him with his new family member.
