DENVER — Cash Coleman said Drake has songs for all kinds of moods – that's why he chose the concert as the backdrop to celebrate his 18th birthday – but now he's left disappointed.
"'You broke my heart' by Drake," Coleman shared.
Coleman said he's "in his feelings" because he had planned to celebrate his birthday at Friday's Drake show.
The Canadian rapper was set to open the second-leg of his "It's All A Blur - Big as the What?" tour in Denver with back-to-back shows at Ball Arena.
Monday, Drake announced to Ball Arena ticketholders would be notified his shows would be postponed. Now, Drake is set to perform in the Mile High City on April 15 and April 16.
Ball Arena shared this statement with 9NEWS:
"The Drake “It’s All A Blur Tour - Big as the What?” is moving the Denver tour dates due to an ankle injury. All tickets will be honored. Drake looks forward to seeing his fans on the 2nd leg of the North American tour."
This is the second time in five months Drake postponed his shows in Denver. He was previously supposed to play Ball Arena in September.
"You know we got the tickets refunded, I was hurt," Coleman said, in response to the notice. "I feel like a lot of people were hurt because I wanted to go to the concert."
Coleman said he had more than 20 family members coming to Denver for the concert to celebrate his birthday in a suite.
"We had catering, family flying in to see the concert with me, family here coming with me," Coleman said. "We were all just really excited."
This is the second time Coleman said an artist has disappointed him with the promise of a Denver appearance. He said he was previously set to meet rapper Lil' Baby at a show last year. He said Drake's postponement feels more like a cancellation for him because he won't be seeing him at the make-up dates.
"He’s better than that," Coleman said. "Like he could have sent out information sooner so people could have changed their plans. I think a lot of people were upset about that."
Coleman was introduced to Drake through his mother, Amanda Gordon. She, too, is disappointed her son's birthday and concert plans fell through.
"Tomorrow is my son’s 18th birthday so when we found Drake was having a concert on my son’s birthday, it was serendipitous," Gordon said.
Gordon was also looking forward to seeing one of her favorite artists live.
"I’m just a huge Drake fan," Gordon said. "Low-key, high-key, excited about going to the concert, myself. But I also thought, my son was going to be disappointed, we had family flying in for this concert, my uncle who is 68 years old, who picked out a new outfit for this concert was coming in and we were just going to great family time."
Gordon said she feels like Drake should have made an announcement on social media to fans about the postponement. She said she did not receive the notice Drake's team shared with Ball Arena.
"Ironically, an hour before we knew the concert had been cancelled, we had placed our food order for the suite, which made it a little more painful because we just dished out more money," Gordon said. "Why didn’t they tell us then?"
She said she learned from word of mouth the concert was getting pushed back.
"While I was on the phone with my friend, my tickets updated with the new date and my heart just sunk," Gordon recalled. "My heart just sunk."
Gordon said she paid $20,000 for the suite with catered food. Now, that money is being put back into a birthday celebration for her son at their Aurora home.
"It just seems like Drake doesn’t want to come to Colorado," Gordon said.
Another disappointed fan is Aaliyah Purchase. She's originally from Denver and planned to fly home from New York City for the show.
She said this was her third attempt at seeing 'Drizzy' take the stage. She said she bought tickets for Drake's show in New Orleans June 2023.
When that show got postponed, she used the money to buy tickets to Drake's Denver September performance. Now, she's still waiting to see one of her favorite performers live.
Purchase said she spent hundreds on her flight and clothes for the concert. She even took time off work for the weekend trip.
Purchase plans to attend Drake's April shows where January tickets will be honored.
Drake's April performances will be the final shows of his tour.
