Scotty McCreery stops Colorado State Fair concert after seeing man hit woman in crowd

The Colorado State Fair Police identified the man involved in the reported assault, and he was detained but not arrested, according to a spokesperson for the fair.

PUEBLO, Colo. — A video circulating on social media shows the moment a country music artist stopped his performance Saturday at the Colorado State Fair in Pueblo after reportedly seeing a man hit a woman in the crowd.

Scotty McCreery had just started singing one of his hit songs, "It Matters To Her," when he stopped mid-line to call someone out.

"Right here, right here," McCreery says in the video. "That's a lady you just hit, sir."

The video shows the former American Idol winner call out to police and security, his finger pointed at someone in the audience. People in the crowd can be heard yelling in the background, demanding the person in question leave the concert.

Shortly after, McCreery tells the person to leave.

"Is she OK? Get the heck out of here," McCreery says.

The singer was then seen on the video asking people in the crowd to tell police who hit the woman, saying the behavior was "absolutely unacceptable." Moments later, he gives the audience a thumbs-up and indicates the person in question was removed.

"Whoever you are, that's the definition of a coward — hitting a lady," McCreery says as he begins strumming his guitar. "Get the heck out of here, bro."

According to a Colorado State Fair spokesperson, an onsite EMT and paramedic team evaluated the victim, who said she did not want to be taken to a hospital via an ambulance.

The Colorado State Fair Police identified the man who had reportedly assaulted the victim Saturday, and he was detained but not arrested, the spokesperson said. Charges have been referred to the Pueblo County District Attorney's Office.

This year marked the state's 152nd Colorado State Fair. The fair started on Aug. 23 and ends on Sept. 2. The concert lineup also included Lonestar, The Commodores and The Spinners, and Ludacris.
