With chiles, frijoles, pirates and sugar beets, and haunted houses and corn mazes, there's lots to do in Colorado this autumn weekend.

COLORADO, USA — Hello, autumn! This first weekend of fall offers dozens of seasonal festivals and sporting events in all corners of the Centennial State.

There are several Oktoberfest celebrations, corn mazes and pumpkin patches, plus haunted houses are just beginning to open.

Chile and Frijoles Festival

PUEBLO — The savory aroma of roasting chilies signals the end of summer in Pueblo. The 30th annual Chile & Frijoles Festival is Pueblo's harvest celebration that pays homage to two of the town's best-loved crops: green chiles (in particular, the Pueblo Chile) and pinto beans or "frijoles." This three-day celebration kicks off Friday with entertainment, street vendors, cooking competitions, and chiles, chiles, chiles. Admission is $6 in advance or $8 at the gate. The Chile & Frijoles Festival draws 140,000 attendees from around the Centennial State and the country. Broomfield Days 

BROOMFIELD — The annual Broomfield Days is Saturday with family activities and entertainment at Midway Park. The day includes more than 300 vendor booths, food trucks, 5K race, clown contest, parade, trade fair, canine competitions, craft festival, duck race, pet farm animals and live performances on three stages.

Northglenn Pirate Festival

NORTHGLENN — The Northglenn Pirate Festival is back this Septembarrr weekend. The festival begins with Pirate Night on Friday at 6 p.m. with live music, sword fighting, dinner and drinks. The main Pirate Festival, on Saturday at the Northglenn Recreation Center and EB Rains Jr. Memorial Park, is for kids, families and individuals with crafts, activities, bounce houses, pirate demonstrations, character appearances and historical information. Summerset Festival

LITTLETON — The sun may be setting on summer, but there's still time to experience a fun, outdoor community festival. The 39th annual Summerset Festival takes place Saturday at Littleton's Clement Park from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will be craft and vendor booths, kids activities, live entertainment and beer garden with local breweries.

Aurora Mini-Con

AURORA — Aurora Public Library will host its annual Mini-Con from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Aurora Municipal Campus. Aurora Mini-Con is a free festival featuring comics, cosplay and all things pop culture. Families, friends and fandoms can experience gaming, superheroes, comic-themed crafts and activities. Attendees can enjoy outdoor activities, food, crafts, and games, as well as shop from vendors with unique merchandise.

Lafayette Mini-Con

LAFAYETTE — Pop Culture Classroom, in collaboration with the Lafayette Public Library, will hold Lafayette Mini-Con from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. The Lafayette Public Library event is a no-cost day of creative inspiration, pop culture learning and family friendly fun. This event is designed to bring the community together for an engaging and educational experience that celebrates storytelling, adventure, games, pop culture in all its forms.

STERLING — The annual Sugar Beet Days will be held in downtown Sterling on Saturday and Sunday. The event features live entertainment and food, arts and craft vendors from Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska and Wyoming. North of 64 Band performs Saturday at 6 p.m.

Miners Day

FREDERICK — Miners Day returns Saturday to celebrate Frederick's mining heritage. The annual event offers fun and entertainment including a parade, burro race, vendors, food trucks, activities, contests and live entertainment. The 22nd annual Miners Day parade steps off at 10 a.m. Saturday. Miners Day will conclude with an evening concert and fireworks display.

Florence Pioneer Days 

FLORENCE — The 96th annual Florence Pioneer Days begins with the Florence Pioneer Day Parade at 10 a.m. Saturday. Pioneer Park will have food, drinks, games, goodies, traders and music. Tractor pulls are planned Saturday and Sunday.

Kimberly Akimbo

DENVER — Fresh off the Broadway stage, the musical "Kimberly Akimbo" is beginning its national tour in Colorado. The winner of five Tony Awards during the 2023 season, "Kimberly Akimbo" begins the 2024-25 Broadway season at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts. "Kimberly Akimbo" will play Sunday, Sept. 22. through Sunday, Oct. 5, at the Buell Theatre. 

The Broadway musical is about a 16-year-old girl with a genetic condition that causes her body to age faster than others, giving her the appearance of a older woman. The new tour stars three-time Tony Award nominee Carolee Carmello, who will play Kimberly, as well as many members of the original Broadway cast. "Kimberly Akimbo" was named best musical by the Tony Awards, New York Drama Critics Circle, The Drama Desk Awards, The Lucille Lortel Awards, and The Outer Critics Circle Awards.

Big Bounce America 2019 Tour

Big Bounce America

DENVER — The Big Bounce America tour will stop in Colorado for two bounce-filled weekends. The massive inflatable experience will set up at the National Western Center in Denver over five days this weekend and next weekend. Open to kids and adults, Big Bounce America includes a newly expanded, 24,000-square-foot "World's Largest Bounce House," a 900-foot long obstacle course, a new deep sea foam party inflatable, a sports arena, and a space-themed area. The Big Bounce America said the event is expected to sell out and advanced tickets are encouraged.

Down To Earth Mile High

DENVER — The Down To Earth Mile High will be held Sunday at Empower Field at Mile High from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. The car culture celebration will have hundreds of vehicles inside the stadium with viewing on the field, alongside a special guest, Broncos mascot Miles. There will also be food trucks, giveaways, vendor booths, awards and a live DJ. Tickets and vehicle registration information can be found online.

DENVER — The 54th annual Denver Oktoberfest returns Friday for the first of two weekends of stein-lifting fun in downtown Denver. In addition to stein-hoisting there will be food, bier/beer, live music, brat-eating contest and more. The party will be located between 20th and 22nd on Larimer Street in the Ballpark neighborhood near Coors Field. The celebration runs Friday to Sunday this weekend — and next weekend as well. General admission is free, but Octoberfest steins and VIP tickets can be found at TheDenverOktoberfest.com.

Castle Rock Oktoberfest

CASTLE ROCK — Castle Rock Oktoberfest runs from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday in downtown Castle Rock. There will be live German music, food trucks, free bounce houses, free rock wall, free inflatable games, beer, wine, cocktails and vendor booths. The event ends with a DJ Dance party from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Oktoberfest in the Mountains

DILLON — Bust out your lederhosen for the annual Oktoberfest in the Mountains at Arapahoe Basin. The event at Mountain Goat Plaza will have live Austrian folk music, dancing, beer, brats and pretzels from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday with free chairlift rides all weekend. Enjoy performances by the Polkanauts, Those Austrian Guys, and Alpen Auerhahn Schuhplattlers.

ThirstyFest

DENVER — The 5th annual ThirstyFest will be held Saturday at CSU Spur Hydro in Denver. ThirstyFest is a volunteer-led craft beer festival supported by the Rocky Mountain Water Environment Association with proceeds benefiting Water For People. From 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday there will be music, food and brews.

Colorado Mountain Winefest

PALISADE — The annual Colorado Mountain Winefest returns to Palisade this Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Riverbend Park. This festival features winery tours, wine field tours, wine dinners, wine pairings, educational seminars and wine and chocolate tastings.

Brews & Barrels

WESTMINSTER — The Orchard Town Center is celebrating one of its largest events of the year, Brews & Barrels, on Saturday. The event brings together Colorado’s top breweries in support of Adaptive Adventures. Guests can taste a variety of craft beers and beverages with unique flavors and styles. Event admission includes access to tastings and entertainment from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday.

Rocky Mountain Wine Fest

WINTER PARK — Winter Park Resort has announced the return of the Rocky Mountain Wine Fest on Friday and Saturday. The Rocky Mountain Wine Fest features unlimited samples of reds, whites, and rosés from all over the world and includes special food-pairing events.  A portion of the proceeds from the event benefits the National Sports Center for the Disabled.

Autumn Gold Festival

ESTES PARK — Fall in Estes Park means golden aspen leaves, elk bugles and Autumn Gold — a festival of bands, brats and beer. In addition to mustard-smothered bratwursts, cold brews, soft drinks and live music, there will be family friendly activities like face painting, Lego-race cars and classic car show. Food vendors will be serving up funnel cakes, corn on the cob, fresh-squeezed lemonade, almonds and desserts. The Autumn Gold Festival takes place Saturday and Sunday at Estes Park's Bond Park.

Colorfest

PAGOSA SPRINGS — Pagosa Springs' Colorfest begins Friday night with the Pagosa Wine and Food Festival. A mass balloon ascension is set for Saturday and Sunday at 8 a.m. with over 40 balloons lifting off over the Pagosa Lakes area. The 5K Color Run & Walk on Saturday will be a color-filled adventure for runners starting at 8 a.m. As the sun sets Saturday, the annual balloon glow will accompany the Bands & Brews Festival in Town Park.

Parker Fall Fest

PARKER — The 4th annual Parker Fall Fest runs from Saturday, Sept. 21, through Saturday, Sept. 28, at O'Brien Park in downtown Parker. This year’s celebration will feature an expanded offering of free family friendly events and activities.

A Fun and Games Day at O’Brien Park will be held next Saturday, Sept. 28, from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Kids can participate in the Colorado Avalanche’s "Game On" street hockey program, lawn games led by scarecrows, inflatables and carnival games with prizes. Capping off Fun and Games Day will be a drone light show.

Spanish Peaks International Celtic Music Festival

LA VETA — The Spanish Peaks International Celtic Music Festival runs from Thursday to Sunday with workshops, demonstrations, concerts and night sessions in La Veta. There will also be Friday and Saturday night concerts in Walsenburg. Loveland Chocolate & Cheese Fest

LOVELAND — The Loveland Chocolate & Cheese Fest is now twice as big. The event offers six hours of cheese and chocolate sampling, shopping and entertainment. There will be chocolate and beer pairing and samples, samples, samples. The festival, which kicks off at 11 a.m. Saturday, is your source for chocolate fountains, chocolate truffles, chocolate fudge, chocolate martinis, chocolate cupcake, chocolate brownies and cheese. Larkspur Autumn Arts and Crafts Fest

LARKSPUR — The 12th annual Larkspur Autumn Arts and Crafts Fest is set for Saturday and Sunday at Larkspur Community Park. This weekend's festival will have artists and artisans with their works on display and available for purchase. Kids can get their faces painted, play with adorable dogs up for adoption, enjoy the large playground, inspect a fire truck and keep their eyes open for a medical helicopter landing. The festival has free parking and admission. Just about a "smile" west of I-25 off the Larkspur exit.

Saguache Fall Festival & Quilt Show

SAGUACHE — The 31st annual Fall Festival & Quilt Show arrives Saturday in downtown Saguache. The festival begins at 10 a.m. with arts and craft vendors including the Saguache Sagebrush Quilters. There also will be a silent auction and live music.

Cruisin' the Canyon Fall Color Truck, Motorcycle & Car Show

CREEDE — If you're looking to catch some fall colors, consider the drive along the Upper Rio Grande towards Creede. The drive of red, gold and yellow landscapes leads to the Cruisin' the Canyon Fall Color Truck, Motorcycle & Car Show. Downtown Creede will have dozens of vintage vehicles. Saturday's car show opens at 9 a.m. with an awards show at 3 p.m.

Fall Harvest Car Show 

FORT MORGAN — The annual Fall Harvest Car Show kicks off Friday at 5 p.m. in downtown Fort Morgan. The show then continues Saturday and Sunday with music, door prizes, food vendors, shopping and cool cars. See the schedule at FallHarvestCarShow.org.

High Plains Comedy Festival

DENVER — Denver’s largest and longest-running standup comedy festival is celebrating its 11th anniversary this weekend. More than 100 of the funniest people in the world will spend three days on South Broadway turning up the laughter during the High Plains Comedy Festival. The lineup of high-profile national acts, new faces and returning hometown favorites joins headliner Bob the Drag Queen, whose Paramount Theatre show will help close out the festival. The festival runs Friday to Sunday.

Fort Collins Historic Homes Tour

FORT COLLINS — The 40th annual Historic Homes Tour takes place Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Poudre Landmark Foundation will hold the event at five private residential homes and five historic properties. This year’s tour promises to be an journey through time, revisiting the most-beloved properties from the past four decades.

New American Arts Festival

AURORA — The 4th annual New American Arts Festival is a 16-day event that celebrates diversity and inclusivity in the performing arts. The free festival, which ends on Sunday, will have dozens of performances of theatre, dance, storytelling, magic, music and spoken word at various venues.

Maize in the City 

THORNTON — If you're looking for a fun, fall event, consider Maize in the City in Thornton, which opens Saturday. There is a 20-acre corn maze, mini maze, barrel train ride, corn launcher, petting zoo and more. Admission to the Maize in the City site is free with a-la-carte attractions. Each attraction will be purchased at the front of each attraction line. The site will be open various days through Thursday, Oct. 31. Fritzler Farm Park

LaSALLE — Fall begins this weekend at Colorado's original and premier corn maze. Fritzler Farm Park has opened for the season with more than 15 attractions plus its famous corn maze. There will be pedal go-carts, pumpkin patch, human foosball, tetherball, ball zone, slide mountain, face painting, yard games, beer garden and more. Fritzler Farm Park will remain open through Sunday, Oct. 27. The farm's haunted attractions and "Scream Acres" open Saturday, Sept. 21, at dusk. Tickets can be purchased at FritzlerFarmPark.com.

Corn Maze at Chatfield Farms

LITTLETON — If you're looking for a festive fall tradition, consider the Corn Maze at Chatfield Farms. The seven-acre corn maze corn maze is perfect for adults, while the little ones can explore the corn mini-maze. There will also be barrel train rides, escape rooms, food vendors and more. The Corn Maze at Chatfield Farms opens Friday and will be open at various times through Sunday, Oct. 27. Tickets can be found at BotanicGardens.org.

13th Floor Haunted House

DENVER — Denver's largest haunted house has opened for the 2024 spooky season. Celebrating 17 years of scares in the Mile High, 13th Floor Haunted House has new twists, turns, characters and  add-on attractions that are sure to thrill. There are three brand new attractions this year, a new layout, new mini games, a new FrightFilm feature as well as two new hidden bars. Enter if you date — at 3400 East 52nd Avenue.

LITTLETON — A Halloween lights festival is returning to Hudson Gardens in Littleton for a fourth year. Magic of the Jack O’Lanterns features a glowing trail of more than 7,000 pumpkins as well as light show displays such as a nautical sea-scape, pirate ship, dinosaurs, dragons and more. New attractions in 2024 include a light show programmed to music throughout the entire event every 30 minutes. Presented by Denver-based Thirteenth Floor Entertainment Group, the festival kicks off the Halloween season on Friday, running select nights through Saturday, Nov. 2.

Walk to End Alzheimer's

DENVER, DURANGO & EAGLE — Three Walk to End Alzheimer's will be held this weekend. Held annually in towns across the country, the Alzheimer's Association's Walk to End Alzheimer's aims to raise funds and awareness for Alzheimer's care, support and research. Denver's City Park will be home to a walk this Saturday. On-site registration will begin at 8 a.m., followed by a ceremony at 9:30 a.m. and the walk immediately following. You can also register online at Act.Alz.org.

Folks in western Colorado can also take the first step to a world without Alzheimer's on Saturday in Eagle and Durango. The Walk to End Alzheimer's in Durango will follow a ceremony at 10 a.m. at Rotary Park. A walk will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday in Eagle at the Brush Creek Park & Pavilion.

So Long to Summer 5K/10K

PARKER — Enjoy the end of a Colorado summer with a workout with family and friends followed by a reward of pancakes. The So Long to Summer 5K/10K begins at 8 a.m. Saturday at Salisbury Park in Parker. You can register at ParkerRec.com.

Superhero Run 

GREELEY — The 12th annual Superhero Run is Saturday with a 10K, 5K, 1-mile run and kids fun run. Caped crusaders, serious runners and families can all take part at the event at Greeley's Family FunPlex. Superhero Run information and registration can be found at RunSignUp.com. 

St. Jude Walk/Run

DENVER — The St. Jude Walk/Run to End Childhood Cancer will be held at the Tivoli Quad on the Auraria Campus on Saturday. The walk and fun run each start at 9 a.m. after a pre-race ceremony. Race registration can be completed at the site at 7:30 a.m. or at Fundraising.StJude.org.

Pikes Peak Marathon and Ascent

MANITOU SPRINGS — The toughest runners from around the world will be in Colorado this weekend for the annual Pikes Peak Ascent and Marathon races. Saturday's Ascent starts in Manitou Springs and climbs over 7,815 feet to the top of America's Mountain, Pikes Peak. Sunday's Marathon is a round-trip to the top of Pikes Peak and back covering 26.219 miles. The tough terrain, altitude and elevation gain make these races the true benchmark for running excellence.

Equinox Marathon, Half Marathon, 5 Mile

LARIMER COUNTY — Runners have been working all summer for races like Sunday's Equinox Marathon, Half Marathon and 5 Mile. The half marathon will again start at Mishawaka Amphitheater. All races will finish at the bottom of the canyon, about one-half mile west of Ted’s Place and Highway 287. Registration for the 10th running of the Fall Equinox Marathon, Half Marathon and 5 Mile can be completed online.

Run the Rockies Road 10k and Half Marathon

FRISCO — The 48th annual Run the Rockies Road 10k and Half Marathon will be held Saturday. The 10K and Half Marathon starts at Copper Mountain, continues through the Ten Mile Canyon on the Summit County Recreational Path and ends on Frisco’s Main Street. Aspen Ruggerfest

ASPEN — The 56th Aspen Ruggerfest runs Thursday to Sunday. The four-day rugby tournament hosts between 30 and 40 teams at Aspen's Wagner Park. There is no charge to watch the action as fans come from afar to watch and enjoy Aspen's stores, hotels, restaurants and bars at the end of each day. Baylor Bears vs. Colorado Buffaloes 

BOULDER — University of Colorado head coach Deion Sanders and the Buffaloes (2-1) will face the Baylor Bears (2-1) at 6 p.m. Saturday night. The nationally televised game will be the Buffs' first conference game since returning to the Big 12 Conference. Tickets for the game at Folsom Field sold out in August. COLORADO  — Your Instagram feed is about to be awash with the glory of Colorado's aspens against a backdrop of blue skies, colorful mountains and literal traffic jams full of leaf peepers on U.S. 285. Fall has arrived and the aspens in Colorado's mountains are beginning to turn. The colors will peak anywhere from late September to early October. Frisco Free Repair Fair

FRISCO — The Town of Frisco is excited to host its 4th annual Frisco Free Repair Fair on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Old Frisco Community Center. Staff will be on site to patch holes and repair minor tears in outdoor equipment such as coats, tents, and backpacks. Town staff will also be sharpening clean machetes, hatchets, axes and more.

Championship Night at CNS

DACONO — Colorado National Speedway is ready to crown some champions. Saturday's short-track racing event will feature special races by the Pro Trucks, Grand American Modifieds, Super Stock, and Figure 8's. Red Rocks

DENVER — There is no better venue for live music in the country than Colorado's Red Rocks Amphitheatre. Although summer has ended, there's still time to catch a show at one of the world's best venues. Concerts at Red Rocks are scheduled through Friday, Nov. 15, when Tiësto closes out the 2024 season with a four-hour DJ set.

Hamlet

DENVER — "Hamlet" is the season-opening show of the Denver Center for the Performing Arts Theatre Company. A psychological revenge thriller, political epic and family saga that’s both grand and deeply human. One of Shakespeare’s best-known plays, "Hamlet" plays the Wolf Theatre through Sunday, Oct. 6.

Bright Nights at Four Mile Historic Park

DENVER — Four Mile Historic Park has transformed into a glowing landscape that immerses visitors with larger-than-life lantern installations that include a mythical dragon that blows smoke, Colorado wildlife and flowers, a crystal forest with unicorns, and creatures from Chinese mythology. The Bright Nights series will be open until Sept. 29. Breck Film Fest 

BRECKENRIDGE — One of the oldest film festivals in the country opens Thursday and continues through Sunday. Since 1981, the Breckenridge Film Festival has celebrated the art of filmmaking with independent films, premieres, receptions, educational programs and retrospectives honoring featured guests. This year's 43rd annual festival will have films screened across multiple venues. Head to BreckFilmFest.org to purchase festival passes.

ASPEN — The 45th annual Filmfest will showcase top filmmaking from around the world through Sunday. The festival features films that have premiered at global film festivals including Sundance, Cannes, Tribeca, Toronto and Telluride. Filmfest 2024 will take place exclusively at the Aspen Film Isis Theatre. Comprised of only 17 invited films, this non-competitive festival presents highly anticipated, provocative fall 2024 titles.

Transformers One

Movies this weekend

Moviegoers said yes to more “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” last weekend. After its monster opening, the Tim Burton sequel easily topped the domestic box office charts again with $51.6 million in sales.

This weekend, theaters will get the Optimus Prime origin pic “Transformers One,” but it may be a quiet few weeks at the box office until “Joker: Folie à Deux” dances its way onto the big screen on Oct. 4.
