Jurassic Quest
DENVER — Jurassic Quest, America’s biggest and most realistic dinosaur event, comes to the Colorado Convention Center starting this Friday. Guests will walk through the Cretaceous, Jurassic and Triassic periods with true-to-life-size dinosaurs, from the very small to gigantic. Jurassic Quest has over 80 dinosaurs that roar, move and some even walk around. The event also offers a dinosaur petting zoo, dino science stations, fossil area, dinosaur rides, photo ops and more. Jurassic Quest will be open in Denver from Friday to Sunday. For tickets, head to AXS.com.
Hairspray
DENVER — The hit Broadway musical "Hairspray" is playing the Buell Theatre in Denver this week. Denver Center for the Performing Arts (DCPA) had to cancel Tuesday night's opening performance after a mishap with the sprinkler system above the stage, but the damage was minimal and the show will go on from Wednesday through Sunday. The all-new touring production of "Hairspray" features classic hits including “Welcome to the ‘60s,” “Good Morning Baltimore” and “You Can’t Stop the Beat.” Tickets are on sale at DenverCenter.org.
On Monday, DPCA announced its 2024-25 Broadway season. "Back to the Future: The Musical," "The Wiz," "Life of Pi," "Funny Girl," "Some Like It Hot," "Gutenberg! The Musical" and the national tour launch of "Kimberly Akimbo" are among the Broadway hits coming to Colorado over the next 18 months. DCPA said added attractions to its season schedule include the Colorado returns of "Hamilton," "The Book of Mormon," "Mamma Mia," and "Moulin Rouge! The Musical."
Winter Dew Tour
COPPER MOUNTAIN — The Winter Dew Tour snowboard and ski competition and festival returns to Copper Mountain from Friday through Sunday. The event celebrates the best in snowboarding, freeskiing, art and community with the world's best winter athletes competing in superpipe and streetstyle competitions. The Dew Tour is free and open to the public with fan-based activities at Copper's Center Village.
Monte Vista Crane Festival
MONTE VISTA — Nature and wildlife enthusiasts will want to head to Monte Vista weekend for a festival described as a photographer's dream. Attendees will see thousands of cranes, ducks and geese flying against a backdrop of stunning mountain scenery at the 41st annual Monte Vista Crane Festival. Crane viewing will be at the Monte Vista National Wildlife Refuge.
There will also be a free craft and nature fair on Friday and Saturday with arts and craft vendors, food, live birds of prey and more, at the Ski Hi Complex near US 285 and US 160. For more information, visit MVCraneFest.org.
Jeff Dunham
DENVER — Ventriloquist and comedian Jeff Dunham will bring his "Still Not Cancelled" tour to Colorado this weekend. Dunham will perform two shows at the Bellco Theatre at the Colorado Convention Center. Shows are scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday and 3 p.m. Saturday. Dunham will also perform at the Broadmoor World Arena in Colorado Springs on Thursday. Dunham has been featured in standup specials on NBC, Netflix and Comedy Central and his comedy has been viewed over one billion times on social media.
RiNo Beer Fest
DENVER — Embark on a magical journey at RiNo Beer Fest: Epic Ale Quest. The realms of fantasy and the world of craft beer collide with this enchanting beer festival invites you to step into a mythical land filled with faeries, dragons and brews. More than 10 breweries and distilleries will participate in the beer festival at 1 p.m. Saturday at Zeppelin Station. There will be a costume contest, medieval dance party and magical photo ops.
Sugar Plum Bazaar Spring Fling Market
ARVADA — Sugar Plum Bazaar is back at The Arvada Center for the annual Spring Fling Market. This “makers market” runs Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Attendance is free with donations accepted at the door for the nonprofit Big Dogs Huge Paws. The indoor market features 72 vendors selling home, body and gift items.
Denver Restaurant Week
DENVER — Denver Restaurant Week is back for a 20th year with more than 250 participating restaurants. The event – which runs through Sunday – aims to celebrate the Mile High City’s restaurant scene while encouraging the community to continue to support the hospitality industry. Denver Restaurant Week features specially priced menus from restaurants across the Denver metro area. Participating restaurants create a multi-course dinner based on one of the four available price points – $25, $35, $45 or $55.
Northern Colorado Home and Garden Show
GREELEY — The Greeley Tribune Northern Colorado Home & Garden Show runs Friday through Sunday. The show is northern Colorado’s oldest home and garden show. With over more than 200 vendors, food trucks, and two full exhibition halls, this event is not one to miss as you get prepared for spring and summer. The show opens Friday at 12 p.m. at Island Grove Event Center and Exhibition Hall.
Colorado Springs Remodeling Expo
COLORADO SPRINGS — The Colorado Springs Remodeling Expo will be at the Norris Penrose Event Center from Friday through Sunday. The event brings together homeowners and remodeling, landscaping and building experts with the latest knowledge in cabinetry and countertops, flooring, sunrooms, additions, basement finishing, waterproofing, smart home automation, energy efficient windows and exterior products. Admission is $3 for adults.
Denver Jewish Film Festival
DENVER — The 28th annual Denver Jewish Film Festival runs from Saturday, March 9, through Sunday, March 17, at the Mizel Arts and Culture Center at the Staenberg – Loup Jewish Community Center (JCC). The festival features 20 films including documentaries, narratives and shorts, and highlights work by Jewish or Israeli filmmakers or actors and themes. The Denver Jewish Film Festival includes a curated selection of stories, drama and documentaries that bring to life the perspectives of Jewish and Israeli filmmakers. Tickets to films are sold individually or can be purchased as festival passes.
Minnesota Wild vs. Colorado Avalanche
DENVER — The Colorado Avalanche, who made a flurry of trades at the NHL trade deadline this week, end a homestand at Ball Arena on Friday. The Avs host the rival Minnesota Wild at 7 p.m. Friday in Denver. The Avalanche next head out on the road for four games before coming back to Ball Arena on March 22.
Utah Jazz vs. Denver Nuggets
DENVER — The red-hot Denver Nuggets are racking up victories before the NBA playoffs. The Nuggets have home games this Thursday against Boston, Saturday vs. Utah, and Monday with Toronto. The Nuggets and Utah Jazz tip-off at 7 p.m. Saturday at Ball Arena in Denver. Tickets are on sale at Ticketmaster.com.
Boulder Polar Plunge
BOULDER & PUEBLO — Two polar plunges will be held this weekend to support Special Olympics Colorado. Plungers will jump into Boulder Reservoir and Pueblo Reservoir on Saturday.
Cherry Creek Chorale
CHERRY HILLS VILLAGE — Cherry Creek Chorale's "Hope's Journey" concert will be held Friday and Saturday. The concert will feature pieces by Bach, Beethoven, Hagenberg, Hayes and more. The Cherry Creek Chorale will be joined by the Cecilian Singers, directed by Phil Drozda, from Overland High School. The concerts begin at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Bethany Lutheran Church in Cherry Hills Village. Tickets may be purchased from a Chorale member, online at CherryCreekChorale.org or at the door on the night of the performance.
Cebollas
DENVER — "Cebollas" is a new production now playing at Denver's Singleton Theatre. Yolie, Celia, and Tere are three sisters forced to take an unexpected road trip from Albuquerque to Denver. Making their way north on I-25, they don’t travel for business or for pleasure. They just need to transport a dead body across state lines. But, then again, what are sisters for? "Cebollas" plays at the Denver Performing Arts Complex through Sunday, March. 17.
Rubicon
DENVER — The Denver Center for the Performing Arts has opened the new drama "Rubicon" at the Kilstrom Theatre. Based on a true story, "Rubicon" tracks the career of one of history’s most effective spies, Elizabeth “Betty” Pack as she transitions from society wife and mother to steely, seductive agent for British and American Intelligence in the years leading up to World War II. "Rubicon" was an audience favorite at the 2022 Colorado New Play Summit and now has its world premiere through Sunday, March 17.
Charley's Aunt
LOUISVILLE — Coal Creek Theater of Louisville is performing its new production "Charley's Aunt." At Oxford University in 1892, Jack and Charley invite their friends Amy and Kitty to meet Charley's wealthy aunt from Brazil. Cancelling her visit at the last minute, the aunt sends the boys into cataclysmic confusion. The problem is solved by drafting their undergrad pal into pretending to be Charley’s Aunt. When the real aunt turns up, classic comic chaos ensues. "Charley's Aunt" will be performed at Coal Creek Theater of Louisville at the Louisville Center for the Arts through Saturday.
The Improvised Shakespeare Company
DENVER — The Improvised Shakespeare Company is back at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts' Garner Galleria Theatre. Each night, the company will create a fully improvised Shakespearean masterpiece right before the audience's eyes. The evening of hilarious off-the-cuff comedy uses the language and themes of William Shakespeare, but with no planning, rehearsal or script. Will the play turn out to be a tragedy, comedy or history? Even the actors aren't sure. Tickets for the company's engagement, which runs through Sunday, April 28, are sold at DenverCenter.org.
BrewSki
FRISCO — The annual BrewSki, a beer festival on skis, begins at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Frisco Nordic Center. Attendees are encouraged to come dressed in costumes to ski up to the beer tasting events where they can sample beers from seven Colorado breweries. BrewSki is not a race, but instead, it is a chance to ski with friends and family, throw on costumes and enjoy a beer tasting tour on scenic trails.
Movies this weekend
Movie theaters were looking for a savior and “Dune: Part Two” delivered last weekend. Armed with sandworms, big screen spectacle and the star power of Timothée Chalamet, the science fiction epic stormed the box office. It's $81.5 million debut was a record for its director Denis Villeneuve, and stars Chalamet, Austin Butler and Rebecca Ferguson.
