A woman waiting for a ride home near the Pearl Street Mall said she was approached by a man who claimed to be a police officer and jumped into her Uber.

BOULDER, Colo. — The Boulder Police Department is asking for the public's help finding a man who jumped into a woman's Uber and fondled her while she was trying to get home.

The victim first encountered the suspect at around 1:20 a.m. on Thursday, according to a news release from the Boulder Police Department. She was waiting to be picked up by an Uber in the 1100 block of Lawry Lane – a busy area near the Pearl Street Mall.

Police said the man approached the victim, claimed to be a Boulder police officer, and asked if she was OK. When her Uber arrived, according to the release, he jumped into the backseat and “put his arm around the victim and fondled her breast.”

When the Uber stopped at the victim’s home, the release said the woman quickly got out of the car and called police once she reached a safe location.

The suspect is described as a black man who was wearing a black jacket, light-colored shirt and dark pants.

Anyone with information about his identity is asked to call the Boulder Police Department at 303-441-4328. Anonymous tips can be submitted to Northern Colorado Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
