It has been warm and dry this month.
With only one quarter of an inch of precipitation, we're way below the average for October. The lack of snow may seem unusual too, but including this year there have been 19 years (since 1882) with no snow recorded in October.
Another 17 years had only a trace of snow. So 26 percent of the time October receives a trace of snow or less in the Denver area.
Temperatures have also been remarkable. We've cracked the top five warmest Octobers, but even with record heat Thursday it does not appear that we'll be able to break into the top 3.
Cooler air is expected Halloween with highs in the 60s.
