COLORADO, USA — The Colorado Department of Transportation, Colorado State Patrol and Colorado Avalanche Information Center held a briefing Wednesday morning to discuss the road impacts of a winter storm forecast to arrive in Colorado on Wednesday.
The winter storm expected to impact Colorado comes three years after Denver's last official double-digit snowstorm.
A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for Denver, Boulder and Golden. CSP said on Wednesday afternoon that they're predicting the closures of Interstate 70, U.S. 40, U.S. 6, U.S. 285 and Colorado 119.
"It's all about balance," CSP said. "Does the need to travel outweigh the potential consequences?"

Road conditions are expected to be dangerous in several areas of Colorado, as several feet of snow could fall on Interstate 25 from Denver to south of Pueblo as well as on the Interstate 70 mountain corridor from Golden to Vail.
Drivers should expect travel delays due to avalanche mitigation and winter maintenance operations and asked that people avoid or limit driving as much as possible through Thursday, which is expected to be the worst of the storm.
The winter weather storm system is forecast to arrive in Colorado on Wednesday, with rain turning to snow sometime between Wednesday night and Thursday morning.
The worst of the impact will be on Thursday, with the storm tapering off Friday. That could mean 36 hours of rain and snow in the Denver metro area.
The National Weather Service said on Wednesday afternoon to expect 10 to 20 inches of snow in the Denver metro area and up to 2 feet of snow in the western suburbs. The foothills and mountains could see 2 to 3 feet of snow.
