COLORADO, USA — It's hard to predict the weather, but a 231-year-old publication has made its prognostications for the upcoming winter.
"The Old Farmer's Almanac" released its official 2024-2025 winter weather map and forecast.
The publication is forecasting a "calmer, gentler" winter with both temperatures and snowfall near or below average throughout most of the United States.
"While there will still be plenty of chilly temperatures and snow for most slopes, we’re predicting a temperate, uneventful winter — potentially a welcome reprieve from the extremes of recent years," the Almanac's editor-in-chief Carol Connare said. "The high heating costs associated with the season shouldn’t hit so hard."
Will Colorado see a lot of snow?
"The Old Farmer's Almanac" said that while much of the United States will see drier-than-average conditions, the intermountain region, including Colorado, will have a snowy winter.
"It’s perfect that the people and businesses in the western mountains will have a snowy winter. We’re looking at you Utah, Colorado, and Lake Tahoe in California," the winter forecast predicts.
"Precipitation and snowfall will be average or above average throughout the intermountain region. The snowiest periods will fall in mid-November, early and late January, and mid-March."
The winter forecast from "The Old Farmer's Almanac" predicts that while Colorado will see average or above-average snow, temperatures won't be especially cold.
"Winter won’t be especially frigid, with temperatures above normal. The coldest periods are in late November and late January," the forecast said.
