One of the best things about working at 9NEWS is getting cool photos from viewers.
That’s not a joke – we actually look at all of your photos, and sometimes, they’re so fascinating we’ve got to learn more.
This was the case with a photo uploaded to Your Take by Jackie Carpenter. It’s features a unique-looking cloud. Check it out below:
Here’s another great part about working at 9NEWS: when we get cool cloud photos, there are some smart people in the office who can actually explain the science of what’s going on.
Enter 9NEWS Meteorologist Cory Reppenhagen. He admits it’s a super cool picture, but he had some somewhat disappointing news.
What you’re seeing is actually two clouds. The one on the bottom is a tiny lenticular cloud beneath a larger mountain wave cloud.
Basically, the photo is an optical illusion, but it’s still pretty awesome!
