Snow totals: This is how much snow fell across Colorado Tuesday

A surprise snow storm dumped as much as eight inches of snow in the Denver metro area.

DENVER — Heavy snow Tuesday morning came as quite the surprise for most.

While there were Blizzard Warnings for some areas, a rare "retrograding" area of low pressure slowly spun from east to west brought more winds and snow than was expected in the metro area.

Snow rates may have been as high as 2-3 inches per hour within Tuesday morning's band in a few locations.

Here are the snow totals as of 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service:

  • Walden: 11.5 inches
  • Ponderosa Park: 9 inches
  • Franktown: 9 inches
  • Elizabeth: 8.5 inches
  • Aurora: 7.5 inches
  • Parker: 6.2 inches
  • Peyton: 5.5 inches
  • Denver: 4 inches
  • Monument: 2.5 inches
  • Arvada: 2.1 inches
  • Lone Tree: 1.8 inches
  • Black Forest: 1 inch
  • Littleton: 0.8 inches
  • Thornton: 0.3 inches
