COLORADO, USA — More than five dozen schools, businesses and offices across Colorado are on delayed start, remote start or closed on Wednesday due to snow and windy conditions.
Community College of Aurora, Lewis-Palmer District 38, Elbert School District 200, Limon Public Schools, Falcon School District 49, Las Animas School District RE-1, Woodland Park RE-2, Pueblo School District 60, Pueblo School District 70, Manitou Springs School District 14, Kiowa C-2, Hi-Plains School District R-23, Widefield School District 3, and Hanover School District 28 are among those closed Wednesday.
Denver City Government, Colorado State Government - Denver Offices, Colorado Passport Agency, and City of Centennial offices are opening late on Wednesday.
Hundreds of flights at Denver International Airport (DIA) are also delayed Wednesday.
The National Weather Service (NWS) said snow-covered roads will make travel hazardous and to plan on slippery road conditions Wednesday. Travel could be difficult Wednesday morning across Interstate 25 and Interstate 70.
Denver, Boulder, and eastern Adams and Arapahoe counties are under a Winter Weather Advisory until 12 a.m. Thursday. Total accumulations are expected to be between 4-8 inches of snow.
The heaviest snowfall will likely occur along the southern foothills, Palmer Divide, and adjacent plains. The Palmer Divide between Denver and Colorado Springs will be susceptible to high snowfall amounts, as well as blowing snow.
One to two feet of snow could fall in the mountains of southwest Colorado. Travel could be very difficult to impossible.
After the snow moves out of Colorado, a high pressure ridge will build providing a pleasant and mild weekend. Colorado's next chance for snow will come late Sunday night into Monday.
