Here's how much snow, rain Colorado could get this weekend

While many areas will experience rain, Colorado's mountains will see accumulating snow above 9,000 feet this weekend.

DENVER — Enjoy the warm weather Friday because a strong weather system is coming to Colorado this weekend.

The storm system will bring widespread precipitation to Colorado late Saturday and into Sunday morning.

While many areas of Colorado, including the Denver metro area and Front Range, will receive rain, the mountains will see accumulating snow above 9,000 feet.

The 9NEWS Weather Impact Team has issued a Weather Impact Day for Saturday night and Sunday morning for a combination of steady, heavier rain in Denver, some impactful high elevation snow, and windy conditions across Colorado for most of the day Saturday.

The big changes are forecast to arrive in Colorado Saturday, with a morning cold front that will drop temperatures and increase our cloud cover. Highs drop to only around 70 degrees in the Denver area Saturday after a few blips of morning sun.

The rain won't move into the Denver metro area until mid-to-late afternoon, with on-again, off-again showers through the evening. The steadiest rain will be late Saturday night and through early Sunday morning.

If you've got outdoor plans Saturday night, bring them indoors, unless you want to get wet.

Snow will develop (after initial rain) above 9-10,000 feet in elevation Saturday night, and those snow levels will drop a bit to perhaps as low as 7,000' in the foothills, with little if any accumulation in the foothills.

Highs only top out in the mid-50s on Sunday in Denver as fall officially begins at 6:43 a.m. Sunday.

Colorado will warm back up into the 70s for Monday with afternoon showers and perhaps a rumble of thunder. Morning showers and cooler temperatures linger for Tuesday before we warm up and dry out on Wednesday and Thursday.
