Accumulating snow possible in Colorado this weekend

The 9NEWS Weather Impact team tracking chances of snow and rain showers and cooler fall-like temperatures in Colorado in the weekend forecast.

DENVER — Colorado will finally get a break from months of summer-like weather this weekend.

Snow is back in the forecast in Colorado, along with rain and cooler, autumn-like temperatures.

According to the National Weather Service in Boulder, a slow-moving storm system will bring chances of accumulating snow back into Colorado this weekend, mainly over the high mountain passes.

The 9NEWS Weather Impact team is tracking snow and rain showers, as well as cooler temperatures across Colorado on Friday and Saturday.

The storm system is forecast to bring rain showers to the Denver metro area and snow to Colorado's mountains, as well as high temperatures in the low 60s on Friday and low 50s on Friday in Denver.

If the current models hold, rain showers would begin Friday afternoon in Denver. Saturday in the Denver area is forecast to be mostly cloudy and chilly with scattered showers.

The system is forecasted to move out of Colorado late Saturday, with sunny skies returning and fall-like high temperatures in the middle to upper 60s, next Sunday and Monday.
