BYERS, Colo. — Some Colorado school districts and businesses have already announced closures and delays for Wednesday.

The 9NEWS Weather Impact Team has declared Wednesday a Weather Impact Day as a storm system brings snow and cold temperatures to Colorado.

The National Weather Service has posted Winter Storm Warnings across Colorado's central and eastern plains and Winter Weather Advisories for areas west and south of Denver.

Akron School District R-1, Elizabeth School District, Limon Public Schools, Platte Canyon Dist. 1, Yuma School District 1, Strasburg School District 31-J, Elbert School District 200, Deer Trail School Dist. 26J, Bennett School Dist. 29-J and Byers School Dist. 32-J are among the closures Wednesday.

Snow began falling Tuesday in Colorado's mountains, intensifying early Wednesday night in along Colorado's Front Range, foothills and the Denver metro area.

Light snow will continue through the first part of the day Wednesday before gradual clearing and a brief break between storms Thursday. High temperatures will remain chilly, in the 30s, on Wednesday in Denver.

Totals with this storm will vary. The foothills west and the Palmer Divide south of Denver will see several inches of snow, while areas north of Denver, including Fort Collins and Greeley, may only see a dusting to an inch or two of snow. The Palmer Divide and south will likely get inches of snowfall as well.

Expect winter driving conditions along Interstate 70 across the state.
