School closures and delays on Thursday in Colorado

Dozens of Colorado schools and businesses have closed or delayed their opening on Thursday after snow piled up along the Front Range.

CASTLE ROCK, Colo. — Dozens of Colorado school districts and businesses have announced closures and delays for Thursday.

After a big round of snow on Wednesday, Colorado will see a brief break from the moisture early Thursday, but more snow is arriving within the next day.

Douglas County School District, Akron School District R-1, Bennett School Dist. 29-J, Byers School Dist. 32-J, Elizabeth School District, Elbert School District 200, Limon Public Schools and Yuma School District 1 are among the closures Thursday.

Winter Storm Watches are up for most of the Denver metro area for a significant winter storm that'll likely bring six inches or more of snow on Friday and Saturday.

Meanwhile in the Denver area, most will probably only have flurries and lighter snow through the day Thursday, with an additional 1-3 inches possible, especially south and east of downtown Denver.

That upper low moves north and east Friday, likely pushing in heavier snow for Friday and Saturday into the Interstate 25 corridor and most of northeastern Colorado. This looks to be heavier and wetter snow, which will make it difficult to shovel and could bring down small branches as well, especially in higher accumulation areas.
