Denver weather: Which areas could expect snow Tuesday?

Temperatures will be 10-15 degrees below normal across Colorado on Tuesday. Winds will make it feel even colder. Snow will make mountain travel difficult.

DENVER — It will be a cold and windy Tuesday across Colorado.

A few Denver area snow showers are possible through the day, but the main weather impact undoubtedly will the chilly and blustery air on Tuesday.

Highs in Denver will only reach the upper 30s with a few flurries around and little or no accumulation for most of the Denver metro area, though a few higher spots in Douglas and Elbert Counties could pick up a slushy inch or two of snow underneath the heaviest snow showers Tuesday morning.

In Colorado's mountains, several inches of snow piled up in the ski areas of the Interstate 70 corridor, with a few more inches possible Tuesday morning before the snow tapers off later Tuesday afternoon.

The wind will be the main story across most of the Colorado on Tuesday. Gusts could reach 40 or even 50 mph in the Denver area and some winds could top 60-70 mph as a mountain wave maximizes in the foothills Tuesday night.

Boulder and the Highway 93 corridor will probably have the worst of the wind, as usual, and that wind will peak Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning before gradually settling down on Wednesday.

High temperatures in Colorado will rebound somewhat on Wednesday under mainly sunny skies, with a high near 50°.

A ridge of high pressure will then build in and turn out to be our main weather driver for the rest of the week, with a Denver high near 60° on Thursday and the low-to-mid 60s for both Friday and Saturday.

Colorado's next storm system will start to roll into the mountains with light snow on Sunday, and it looks increasingly likely that we'll see at least some rain and/or snow in the Denver area on Monday into Tuesday of next week.

With the Thanksgiving holiday just around the corner, the 9NEWS Weather Impact Team will keep an extra eye on that storm.
