DENVER — It wasn't just you feeling extra sweaty this summer.
Denver had its second hottest summer on record.
The average temperature over the months of June, July and August was 75 degrees, just barely nudging out the 2020 average of 74.9 degrees.
The hottest summer on record was in 2012, when the temperature averaged 76.3 degrees.
This was also one of driest summers in the city's history.
Denver received a total of 2.38 inches of rain this summer, less than half of the average rainfall total of 5.64 inches.
Four of Denver's top 5 hottest summers occurred in the past five years. These were the average temperatures of Denver's five hottest summers:
- 2012: 76.3 degrees
- 2024: 75 degrees
- 2020: 74.9 degrees
- 2022: 74.8 degrees
- 2021: 74.6 degrees
While astronomical summer doesn't end for another three weeks, meteorological summer ended on Saturday. Meteorologists define seasons by full months for consistent climate keeping and define summer as the full months of June, July and August.
