DENVER — A significant snowstorm will impact travel in Colorado's mountains during Thanksgiving week.
The 9NEWS Weather Impact Day has issued Weather Impact Days on Tuesday and Wednesday as Colorado is expected to see major travel impacts those days.
While the mountains in Colorado could see 1-2 feet of snow, the Denver area and Front Range will also see some slushier snow before the Thanksgiving Day holiday on Thursday.
Calm Monday before the storm
A snowstorm over the weekend left behind a few inches of snow in Colorado's mountains and a dusting to an inch across parts of the Denver area and eastern plains.
However, Monday will be generally quiet across Colorado. The high temperature in Denver on Monday will reach the upper 40s with mainly sunny skies.
Colorado mountain snow
A Pacific storm will begin arrive in Colorado late Monday, bringing snow to Colorado's mountains late Monday and especially early Tuesday, with steady snow likely by dawn Tuesday morning across the mountains.
Snow will be heavy at times and fall most of the day Tuesday, likely leading to significant travel impacts, especially for the second half of the day and overnight into Wednesday morning.
If you have to travel in Colorado's mountains, give yourself tons of extra time and use all winter driving precautions: Fill up to a full tank, have a winter survival kit in your car, use snow tires, and drive extra cautiously.
Denver snow forecast
In Denver, clouds increase on Tuesday ahead of the storm.
The Denver area will get some rain/snow that will likely flip to all snow overnight Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, with a few slushy inches of accumulation likely, mostly on Wednesday morning.
It will snow most of Wednesday with little or no additional accumulation with mild temperatures (for snow standards).
Higher totals are likely west and south of Denver above 6,000 feet in elevation, where a few spots could pick up more than six inches of accumulation by the time the snow winds down later on Wednesday.
Thanksgiving weather forecast
Colorado will clear out and turn chilly but quiet for Thanksgiving.
Look for lots of cold sunshine and a high in the 30s, and that generally cold pattern will last most of the week.
