Golfball-sized hail fell in a Thornton neighborhood late Monday evening.

LOUISVILLE - Large hail from a storm Monday night in Louisville left behind quite a bit of damage.

Cars parked in a lot at West Dillion Road were no match for the hail. Many of the cars there had their windshields shattered.

Brook Hernandez was among those parked in the lot that's shared by multiple businesses.

"There was a huge hail storm that lasted all of ten minutes, and almost all of the cars in the parking lot had some damage," she said. "Mine was one of the worst."

Hernandez was at a birthday party at a nearby restaurant when the storm moved in.

"We saw it through the windows and on the patio," she said. "And then we all just started looking out the windows and we saw one car get hit and we were all just kind of like – wow. We hope ours isn’t! And then after the hail stopped we all came out and looked at everybody’s cars and I saw that mine was one that -- it wasn’t an ideal situation."

The storm lasted about 10 minutes and brought some pretty large hail.

"It was bigger than a golf ball. Like, in your hand, it fit like the whole palm of my hand," Hernandez said.

With her windshield shattered and rain still falling she tried her best to keep her car from getting even more damaged while she waited for a tow truck.

"So I tried to put my sunshade up so that rain wouldn’t get in – which was, like, just a poor attempt. But I thought that maybe it would help a little since I knew it would be still raining and I would be there for a little while."

One homeowner told 9NEWS in an email that hail damaged three of their vehicles and shattered their kitchen skylight.
