FORT MORGAN, Colo. — The South Platte River is expected to rise above its banks in the coming days after flooding and receding during Thursday's storms, Logan County Office of Emergency Management (OEM) said Saturday.
The gauge at Atwood Bridge showed the river was at 9.64 feet Saturday morning, and it is expected to climb to 10.5 feet, which would surpass the high water mark from this week that led to flooding.
The Logan County OEM said low-area flooding that began this week is expected to continue as the river rises again.
Officials currently predict the river will crest Monday morning.
Gauges upstream on the South Platte are still climbing, with the exception of one gauge in Jersey which is declining. In addition, the Pawnee Creek is still flowing into the river but the flow has decreased by two-thirds as of Saturday morning.
"Our weather is expected to be dry for the next few days, however continue to stay aware of conditions especially in low-lying areas," Logan County OEM said. "Sandbag filling stations are temporarily available near the Atwood Sinclair, at the Sterling City Service Center and near the fairgrounds by the old county shops."
Residents who experience property damage due to the storm are asked to contact Logan County OEM at 970-520-0991 or caseboltj@logancountyco.gov
