Snow causes power outages in Denver metro area

Xcel was working to restore power outages caused by winter weather this week.

DENVER — The first significant snowfall in the Denver metro area this season caused widespread disruptions, with fallen branches and scattered power outages. 

More than 30,000 customers were impacted by outages Saturday, according to Xcel's outage map. 

By 2:30 p.m. Sunday, it reported about 200 customers were still impacted.

A major winter storm is bearing down on the Denver metro area, with historic snow totals continuing across the eastern plains.

Heavy, wet snow continues across the Front Range and Eastern Plains.

Winter Storm Warnings and Winter Weather Advisories were in place across most of the high country, Front Range and Eastern plains through noon Saturday.
