DENVER — Strong thunderstorms are possible Wednesday afternoon and evening in the Denver metro area and eastern Colorado plains.
A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for portions of eastern Colorado until 9 p.m.
Scattered thunderstorms were forecast to develop along Colorado's Front Range in the afternoon and spread east onto the plains in the evening bringing the possibility of hail, strong winds and localized flooding. The strongest storms are likely on the eastern plains.
The severe weather risk is greatest in the Denver metro area until 7 p.m., and on the plains from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Early Thursday, a cold front arrives in Colorado, cooling high temperatures and suppressing storm formation. Scattered storms are forecast to return Friday with slightly warmer temperatures.
From the weekend and into next week, Colorado will settle into a southwest flow which will bring mostly dry conditions with high temperatures warming well above normal.
