Thunderstorms cause hundreds of delays at Denver airport

The airport was placed on a ground delay because of the weather.

DENVER — Thunderstorms caused hundreds of delays Thursday at Denver International Airport. 

As of 10 p.m. Thursday, FlightAware was reporting 801 delays and 54 cancellations at Colorado's largest airport. 

The most affected airlines were Southwest, United, Skywest, Air Canada, Sun Country Airlines and Lufthansa.

DIA was under a ground delay for several hours due to thunderstorms, according to the Federal Aviation Administration, with an average delay of two hours at one point. The ground delay has been lifted. 

Storms moved through the Front Range, including in Arvada, Westminster and Thornton. A tornado warning was issued for part of Weld County until 4:15 p.m.
