DENVER — All of Colorado is at risk of severe thunderstorms Thursday afternoon and evening.
The Denver metro area, Front Range, mountains and eastern plains of Colorado could all see severe weather with the potential for heavy rain, flooding, lightning and damaging winds.
The Front Range, including the Denver area, is under a moderate risk of seeing strong thunderstorms.
Colorado's western mountains and northeast plains are at a greater risk for the strongest storms. Thursday's storms have the potential for heavy rainfall that could lead to flooding over flood-prone areas.
A Flood Watch has been issued for most of western Colorado from noon to midnight Thursday with rainfall in some storms in excess of 2 inches per hour. Flash flooding from excessive rainfall could be especially concerning over burn scar areas.
A strong flow of subtropical moisture will continue to produce heavy storms in Colorado again on Friday but will continue to diminish as the day wears on.
Cooler and more stable and dry weather returns Saturday, especially on the eastern Coloirado plains. Then much drier and warmer weather returns on Sunday and should last through at least the Independence Day holiday.
