DENVER — After a severe thunderstorm left a path of destructive hail across the Denver metro area from Broomfield to Aurora, more severe weather is possible Friday.

Friday evening, we'll watch for scattered, light rain showers to push in from the west. Some of the showers could churn up an isolated storm, with the possibility to become severe across the eastern Front Range and plains.

Marginal and severe risks for severe weather are in effect for most of the eastern half of the state, with large hail (1-2" in diameter), damaging winds (gusting up to 60-70 mph), heavy downpours and lots of lightning/thunder being the largest threats.

The National Weather Service forecast two-inch hail in Limon and Hugo.

More strong thunderstorms are also expected Saturday.

A severe thunderstorm late Thursday night dropped baseball-sized hail on the Denver metro area. The largest hail report was a 2.75-inch hail stone in southeast Commerce City.

After storms on Friday and Saturday, the Denver area is set to warm up on Sunday and into next week. Denver could experience the warmest weather since last year.

The last time Denver recorded a 90-degree reading was on Sept. 30, 2023, with a 91-degree day. Gusty west winds will develop downslope warming which could warm Sunday’s highs to around 90 degrees.
