THORNTON, Colo. — Several parts of Colorado were hit with hail in recent weeks including Yuma, Weld and Denver Counties – the widespread, torrential weather damaged cars, crops and homes.
The storms have roofing companies, like Red Rock Roofing, working long hours to meet the need.
"The hail is extremely widespread," owner Steve Adjemian said. "Our guys have been running, sunup to sundown, Monday through Sunday."
Adjemian said the last two weeks have been hard on his team. He said individual inspectors are climbing 30 to 40 homes a day.
"Yuma got a big hail storm, we ran out there," Adjemian said. "Quickly ran to Johnstown, Greeley, for the storm that happened out there. And then just the other day, we are now inundated with Denver, Thornton, Commerce City, Green Valley Ranch, Aurora."
Lead project manager Austin Wickham said he estimates he's done 60 inspections since hail hit Colorado this season.
"Double pulls, three-story roofs, two-story roofs, you name it," Wickham said. "My legs are killing me."
Wickham said he does the work he does because he likes to help people which is good after the past couple of weeks of damaging weather have kept him busy.
"I get in my truck, get about 17 calls, starting about 9 a.m. and we just start hitting one after one after one," Wickham said.
For Red Rock Roofing, the standard is to record video inspections of the roof to then provide them to the homeowner.
"Here we’re looking for hail damage so basically where the hail has struck the shingles, dislodged the granules and exposed the fiberglass under mass," said Wickham.
After a claim is submitted to insurance, he said their work with a home doesn't stop there. He said his team will come back to meet with an adjuster to walk the property.
"The hardest decision I tell a homeowner they're going to make, is what color to pick, "Adjemian said.
