COLORADO, USA — We’ll have a great view of Jupiter on Monday night, here’s how to see it!
Jupiter is already the biggest planet in the solar system (did you know that 1,300 Earths can fit inside?) But Monday night, it’ll look even bigger.
Every 13 months, the Sun, Earth, and Jupiter all line up perfectly. It’s called the opposition of Jupiter.
So as the sun sets in the west Monday night, Jupiter will rise in the east.
To find Jupiter, look to the east as the sun goes down. It’ll be the brightest object in the sky and unlike stars, it won’t twinkle.
If you have binoculars you might get to see a couple of its moons! If you have a telescope, you may get to see that Great Red Spot (that’s the storm that’s been going on for more than 150 years!)
The best time for viewing will be around 9:30 p.m., but Jupiter will be visible from sunset to sunrise.
Monday night is the official opposition, but we’ll have great viewing of Jupiter for the next couple weeks.
