DENVER — Crews rescued a total of 29 people from their vehicles as heavy rain flooded streets across the Denver area Sunday evening.
Denver Fire Department (DFD) said crews rescued 11 people from their vehicles in the area of Interstate 70 and York Street. Of the 11 rescued, 3 were children, according to DFD.
At 38th and Blake streets, crews rescued eight people from a minivan that was immobilized in the underpass. The fire department said everyone who was rescued was doing OK.
Firefighters were captured on video rescuing children – including a baby – from a car stuck in floodwaters at 38th and Blake.
Felix Espinoza, who took the video, said he spoke to a woman who was in that car.
"The lady said she just was getting dinner, coming back from getting dinner. Little Caesar's or something – they rescued the pizza, no worries," he said. "It was just a family of people. It was a lot of kids and a mother, as well."
