KUSA - The road to the mountains is truly beautiful this time of year. A recent trip took us along Interstate 70 to Highway 103. While colors haven’t peaked here just yet, we still managed to find some spectacular aspen gold.
And we weren’t the only ones admiring the colors. Gary Thomas and his friends came out to Colorado from Pittsburg, Pennsylvania to take in the views and have a little fun.
“We’ve been riding out here for years,” Thomas said. “We enjoy it a lot and we try to run a different area every time we come out here."
Cooler mountain temperatures are helping those aspen stand out a bit more. Our famous sunshine doesn’t hurt either. Thomas said the aspen views makes his trips that much better.
“Every turn is a different view, and that what’s important,” Thomas said. “You can just sit around and look and see wild animals and stop to take pictures.”
Taking the road less traveled is the way Thomas and his friends like to do it.
“Our bikes are designed to go on road or off road, so they’re street legal,” Thomas said. “We can ride off of really small one track trails, see a lot of back country that you can’t do any other way. I’m 69 years old. And I’ll do this as long as I can.”
The aspen will be peaking in mountain areas north of I-70 between now and September 22.
