COLORADO, USA — Just after 3 p.m. Wednesday, Levi Sabell and his crew were loading up their plow trucks and preparing for another long night ahead.
“We got about 20 trucks working tonight, and another 15-20 sidewalk shovelers,” he said.
Sabell is the latest generation of the family that owns and operates Sabell’s Snow Plowing and Landscape Service, based out of Lakewood. They contract services with businesses around the entire metro area.
“Mostly commercial parking lots, and business parking lots all around town,” Sabell said.
After a somewhat slow start to the winter season, business picked up in January.
“January was a lot of snow, we went out about six times for some customers. So that’s quite a bit to do in one month’s time,” he said.
Sabell said it's not that we've had more snow than the total amounts in past seasons; it's just a lot more frequent now.
“We had a lot more and in a lot shorter time period," he said. "We had about half a winter in about a month and a half when it comes to plowing.”
Most of the work is done in overnight hours, trying to clear roads and sidewalks ahead of the morning community and business hours. Sabell and his crew expected a long night of work.
“Hopefully, we get every job done, the snow [moves] out of here and we get to sleep!”
