MESA COUNTY, Colo. — A single-engine plane crashed upside-down in the Colorado River on Saturday southwest of Grand Junction, according to the Mesa County Sheriff's Office.
The pilot, a 37-year-old man from Grand Junction, suffered minor injuries in the crash only a few miles east of the Utah state line. The pilot was flying from Moab, Utah, to Grand Junction, Colorado, when the plane crashed about 11 a.m. Saturday.
Rescue crews were in contact with the pilot, who was the only person on board. They located the plane a short time later, the Sheriff's Office said.
According to FAA registry data, the plane is a Piper L-21 Super Cub.
The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the cause of the crash.
