Skier dies in Winter Park due to medical emergency

The resort said a Westminster man was skiing on a mountain trail when he suffered a medical emergency.

WINTER PARK, Colo. — A skier recently died while skiing at the Winter Park Resort, the resort announced Thursday.

The 58-year-old Westminster man on Tuesday suffered from a medical issue while skiing on the White Rabbit trail at the resort, according to a release from the popular Colorado ski area. 

The resort said ski patrol responded immediately and the man was transported to the Denver Health Winter Park Medical Center at the base of the resort, where they continued to efforts to revive him, but were unsuccessful. 

Winter Park extended its condolences to the man's family and friends in the wake of the incident.

The Winter Park Resort is located in the Rockies just 67 miles outside of Denver in the towns of Winter Park and Fraser, located in Grand County. 

The resort has about 765,000 acres of public land at elevations of 9,000 feet and 8,800 feet. The valley is surrounded by the Arapaho National Forest and three wilderness areas.
