More than 800 flights delayed or canceled at Denver airport

Denver International Airport extended a ground stop Friday night because of ice and snow.

DENVER — More than 800 flights were delayed or canceled at Denver International Airport (DIA) Friday.

According to the FlightAware website, 910 flights were delayed and 63 were canceled Friday. Some of the impacted airlines were SkyWest, Southwest, United and Frontier.

The delays and cancellations came amid a winter storm that started Friday morning, which brought snow to the Colorado mountains, plains, and the Denver metro area.

DIA extended a ground stop that started at around 7:15 p.m. Friday because of ice and snow.

The National Weather Service issued a Winter Weather Advisory for some of Colorado's northern mountains.
