Cyclist killed in crash with car on I-76 near Sheridan Boulevard

The crash led to an hours-long closure of eastbound Interstate 76 during Tuesday morning's commute.

ARVADA, Colo. — Eastbound lanes of Interstate 76 were closed Tuesday morning following a fatal crash between a vehicle and bicycle near Sheridan Boulevard.

Colorado State Patrol Trooper Gabriel Moltrer said the crash was reported at around 4:30 a.m. The driver of the car was taken to a hospital with serious injuries, CSP said. The cyclist died on scene, Moltrer said.

The Adams County Coroner's Office will release the cyclist's identity at a later date.

The crash led to an hours-long eastbound closure of I-76 between Sheridan and Wadsworth boulevards.  As of 7:30 a.m., a tow truck and a front loader arrived at the scene to help clean up the wreck.

The highway fully reopened just before 9 a.m. No other details were immediately available.
