Hotel built out of shipping containers ready to open in Silverthorne

The Pad in Silverthorne blends hotel rooms and hostel community areas for unique lodging that’s been built using recycled shipping containers.

SILVERTHORNE, Colo. — The Pad in Silverthorne is a new hotel that owner Rob Baer says will be open for guest by mid-November.

“We’re excited to make this ski season,” said Baer.

Rob and his wife Lynne own the hotel, which has been built using recycled shipping containers, all of which make up some of the rooms in the hotel.

“We used 18 upcycled shipping containers,” said Baer. “Most of the dorm rooms are shipping containers and that keeps the hostel travel feeling.”

Shipping containers are a unique feature in a hotel that also blends high-end rooms with lower price points. Micro rooms and communal area hostel rooms cost anywhere from $80 to $300 a night.

“The common areas are the core part of the building,” said Baer.

There’s also a restaurant, bar, and a roof top deck with a hot tub right off the banks of the Blue River in downtown Silverthorne.
