DENVER – Denver International Airport has reopened the Terminal East passenger drop-off area more than eight hours ahead of schedule after closing the area to finish a construction project.
The drop-off area was closed at 10 p.m. on Friday and scheduled to reopen again at 4 p.m. on Sunday.
It reopened at about 7:30 p.m. Saturday instead, according to a news release from DIA.
Crews closed Level 6 on the east side of the Jeppesen Terminal to finish pouring a final piece of concrete to connect a new elevated roadway to the drop-off area.
According to DIA, crews poured that final piece of concrete by midnight, and by noon on Saturday, engineers were testing its strength level, and it was able to be opened to traffic.
One lane of the elevated roadway will stay closed until workers finish installing glass on the new Westin Hotel at DIA. That closure is not expected to impact traffic leaving the drop-off area.
This weekend was chosen for the construction project because it was projected not to be a busy weekend for the airport.
