Hundreds of flights delayed at Denver's airport due to ice and snow

Snow started falling Friday and into Saturday, causing delays at Colorado's biggest airport.

DENVER — Hundreds of flights were delayed at Denver International Airport (DIA) due to the recent snowfall that started Friday.

Departing aircraft were being sprayed with deicing fluid to remove snow and ice as winter weather continued to move through the area. A ground stop was briefly issued Saturday morning but has been lifted.

As of 11 p.m. on Saturday, 768 flights were delayed and 8 were canceled, according to FlightAware.

Impacted airlines included United, Southwest, SkyWest, American Airlines and Delta.

A fresh round of snow fell in Colorado Friday night into Saturday.

As of Saturday morning, some parts of the Denver metro area saw up to eight inches, and light to moderate snow was expected throughout Saturday. DIA reported 2.2 inches overnight Friday into Saturday.
