Spirit Airlines to discontinue service at DIA on Tuesday

The ultra low-cost carrier's final flight from Denver's airport will depart on Tuesday morning.

DENVER — Spirit Airlines' last flights will depart from Denver International Airport on Tuesday, two months after the airline announced it was discontinuing service to the Mile High City.

Two Spirit flights are scheduled to depart from DIA on Tuesday morning, to Miami and Las Vegas. The last flight takes off at 11:47 a.m., according to DIA's website.

The ultra low-cost carrier announced the change in a statement in November: "As we continue to learn more about how Pratt & Whitney’s GTF engine availability impacts our fleet and operations, we’re forced to make some tough choices. After considering those constraints and the underperformance of our routes through Denver International Airport (DEN), we’ve made the difficult decision to discontinue service at the airport, effective Jan. 9, 2024."

A spokesperson for DIA said Spirit operates out of one gate on Concourse C. The gate will revert back to the city when Spirit discontinues service.

JetBlue has proposed a $3.8 billion acquisition of Spirit Airlines, which the Biden administration has been fighting in court. The trial in federal district court in Boston, which ended in December, could reshape the market for low-cost airlines — Spirit is by far the nation’s biggest budget carrier, and it will disappear if JetBlue wins the case. No ruling has been made yet in the case.
