DENVER — Travelers at Denver International Airport (DIA) may see a few new changes.

At Friday's grand opening event, Denver mayor Michael B. Hancock noted the impact that it would have to the Rocky Mountain region.
“Denver International Airport continues to strive toward effectively serving 100 million annual passengers within the next 10 years. The opening of these new expansion areas is significant for the airport’s future,” said Hancock. “Not only is there a brand-new facility with 10 gates at the end of Concourse B-East, six of the 12 new gates on Concourse A-West can accommodate international flights bringing more visitors, opportunities and economic growth to our region.”
Six gates in Concourse A are designed to accommodate international flights. In addition, a new outdoor observation deck for passengers, along with a new 530,000 square foot United Club will be added to ease congestion. The United Club in Concourse A is expected to open this summer.
Besides the new gates, United is also adding a unique grab-n-go lounge concept in Concourse B called the 'United Club Fly' (located next to gate B61). According to United, it is designed for travelers who might want to grab a quick snack, beverage or barista-made coffee on the way to their next flight. The airline did not specify an opening date for the lounge.
Friday's grand opening brings an end to the Gate Expansion Program. According to a DIA press release, through the Gate Expansion Program, a total of 39 new gates were added across all three concourses bringing about new amenities, including an observation deck at the end of the concourse.
“The completion of the Gate Expansion Program continues to position DEN as one of the top international airports,” said DEN CEO Phil Washington, “while solidifying our partnership with United Airlines. In addition, DEN stays true to our Vision 100 pillars of growing our infrastructure and expanding our global connections.”
Denver International Airport currently serves as a major hub for both United and Frontier Airlines, along with being the largest operating base for Southwest Airlines.
